Whether you have a small business or not, we all need to manage our money. If you’re looking for a first step, or for an easy way to manage your personal expenses so that you know at a glance where all your money goes to make sure you spend less than you earn and keep your household cash flow in the black, I have a simple spreadsheet-for-people-who-don’t-much-like-spreadsheets. It’s my gift to you, and you won’t end up on any mailing list.

It is pre-filled with a few made-up items to give you the gist of it. Customize the line items to your heart’s content to fit your own financial situation. If a monthly expense varies a little, enter a typical amount. The addition and average formulas are built in.

(If you later need more robust budgeting help, there are many apps and types of software you can use to track your personal spending so you can see your “budget vs. actual” over time. Think YNAB, Mint, or Quicken. I’ve used Quicken for a decade, so that’s my bias.)

If you need to start somewhere, this is a free plug-and-play resource.  It will not impress Excel-ninjas, but it’s not for them.  Try it, and let me know how it works for you. Also let me know if you have questions about it. I’d love to help.
